Spergularia marina, until recently thought to be an introduced species, is now believed to be native to Tasmania (and all other states) . It is a sprawling herb with narrow, opposite, quite succulent leaves and conspicuous purplish flowers.

It is found mainly in saline wetlands and coastal areas.
