| Persicaria
prostrata (creeping knotweed or creeping waterpepper)
is a low growing herb found on the banks of streams and in
ditches. It is not clear whether it is native or a weed.
The leaves are narrow ovate, about 1-4cm long by 4-7mm
wide, and quite hairy. The ochreas (the sheathing scales)
are distinctive in being extended into a green, spreading
toothed limb. The spike is shortly cylindrical, up to 4cm
long and 4-7mm wide. |
