Stellaria
(Caryophyllaceae) 1:71 |
|
 |
| Tasmania
has four native and two introduced species of Stellaria.
These are all herbs, and vary markedly in the petals. Some
(e.g. S. flaccida) have showy flowers (~1-1.5 cm
across). Others have much smaller petals (e.g. S. media).
Others (e.g. S. pallida) have no petals at all. When
present, there are usually five petals, but these are
divided almost to the base, so that at first glance, there
seem to be 10 petals. The native species of Stellaria
are commonly known as starworts. |
