Tasmania
has at least five introduced species of Silene.
These include some very common garden and agricultural weeds
such as S. gallica (french catchfly) and S.
nocturna (mediterranean catchfly). Flowers produced
in winter can be cleistogamous (i.e. not opening, and having
very reduced petals).
