This worldwide family is represented in Tasmania by one introduced species Limonium sinuatum (notched sea-lavender) and two closely related native species, L. australe (yellow sea-lavender) and L. baudinii (tasmanian sea-lavender). They are both rare saltmarsh rosette species with conspicuous inflorescences, ending in one-sided spike-like groups of flowers. The most conspicuous parts of the inflorescences are the papery white and persistent sepals.
