AMARANTHACEAE 3:565

In Tasmania the family Amaranthaceae now includes all the genera formerly part of Chenopodiaceae. The Tasmanian Amaranthaceae include herbaceous species and a few shrubs that mostly grow in dry or saline areas.
Many species have small flowers with no obvious perianth, but coloured flowers are present in some species. The furry spike of Ptilotus spathulatus (Possum Tails) make this an unmistakable species.
