| Tasmania has
two introduced species of Echium (E. plantagineum [=
E. lycopsis, Pattersons Curse or Salvation Jane], and E.
vulgare [Viper's Bugloss]). The former is common on roadsides
and occasionally extends into fields, but is not as problematic as
it is on mainland Australia. E. vulgare is less common. A
third species, Echium candicans (Pride of Madeira), is a very
common garden plant that appears as an occasional escape, but is
probably not naturalised (yet).
The Echium species are large plants with conspicuous
purple flowers.
