| Borago
officinalis (borage) is a common weed that is also
often grown domestically. Its blue flowers superficially
resemble Solanum
flowers in general shape and the way that the anthers are
appressed to the style. However, the ovaries of Solanum
are completely fused, whereas Borago has four
separate carpels (see picture) The plant is a robust herb
covered in stiff hairs, giving the plant a distinctly rough
texture. The leaves are 4-20cm long and 2-7 cm wide. |
