This is
large, much branched shrub that is common and widespread in
wet forests. It grows after fire, and will persist for
perhaps a few decades. It also grows along roadsides. The
small inflorescences occur at the ends of the branches. It
can be confused with O.
thyrsoideus (which occurs in similar habitats),
but which has the inflorescences scattered along the
branches.
