Two
species of marigold (Calendula) have become
naturalised widely. They mainly differ in size: garden
marigold (C. officinalis) has larger flower heads
(2-5 cm wide) than wild marigold (C. arvensis - 1-2
cm).
The fruiting stage of Calendula is distinctive -
the outer fruit in the head are crescent shaped and
relatively large.
