Allittia cardiocarpa

Allittia cardiocarpa

B. rigidula individual flower

Brachyscome is a widespread, common and conspicuous genus of native daisies. There are thirteen species in Tasmania although one, B. ciliaris, has been recorded only four times in Tasmania and not since 1967. Species occur in virtually all open habitats in Tasmania except saltmarsh.
Habits range from rosettes with flat leaves, rosettes with grass-like leaves, to upright herbs. The flowers have no pappus, or a very short one, and the ovaries (and fruit) are flattened, often surrounded with a wing or a thickened ridge.

Allittia cardiocarpa was previously known as B. cardiocarpa. It resembles Brachyscome species in many ways and is included in the following key.
